The Shallows

One of the things that I found really interesting when reading this book, is the "cell phone novels" that are going on in Japan. They are novels that were written on mobile phones and published on the internet then when they became so popular the novels on the internet became printed books. These books were mostly love stories and were written in short sentences with some charactistics of text messaging. They said that the reason people were abandoning traditional novels is because of the sentence structure and how complicated the sentences can be. I completely agree with this because many times when i'm trying to read traditional books the sentences can be to complex. Once I start to not understand the sentences I give up on reading. I don't think that you should be spending all your time trying to figure out what that sentence ment or having to look up a bunch of words, because you just don't understand. I'm not saying that writers should dumb down their books or novels, but they should put it on a level that everyone can understand. I think writers can still have intelligence in their sentences just not make them so wordy to the point where you can't follow what they are saying. The book overall has opened up my eyes to what the internet is doing to our brains. The book was good and very interesting.
